Overview
James Fisher Energy, part of James Fisher & Sons PLC., has successfully performed a cutting test to demonstrate the effectiveness of their innovative internal cut and lift technology (ICLT) cutting tool in a safe and controlled environment. The testing was carried out in our 900,000-litre steel dive tank located at James Fisher's National Hyperbaric Centre facility in Aberdeen, Scotland. Here you will find a link to a great video showing the cutting taking place : cutting test
The Challenge
The key challenge for this cutting test was to find a way to give an opportunity for customers to view the operations and ICLT performance, in a safe and controlled way, to be able to see at first hand not only the capability of the ICLT but to truly understand the benefit of a proven cut and lift system.
Solution
To begin with the 900,000-litre steel dive tank was drained and underwater cameras were installed to help the invited customers have the best view of the test cut and lift. The setup was designed to allow filming and live streaming of the demonstration, providing a clear view of the tool's performance and a real-time feed for customer observation in the adjoining boardroom. The James Fisher Energy team provided all the equipment handling activities and the facility yard was used for storing additional equipment that would be needed as part of the test as well as a lay-down area for the cut pipe.
Our Impact
The overall value of the test and demonstration set up allowed the customers to observe the ICLT cutting and lifting tool close up and in real time, whilst being to ask questions to the ICLT operators in a controlled environment, helping to demonstrate the tangible results of the cutting technology and its effectiveness. This test helped show how the ICLT can support our customers overcome cut and lift challenges often needed in challenging conditions.
