EDF required Osiris to problem solve the issue of an underwater coarse screen becoming detached at the Heysham 1 power station.

Osiris (now part of James Fisher Subsea) worked closely with EDF to safely resolve the issue of a detached underwater coarse screen. The successful removal of the screen proved to be a difficult challenge, but Osiris were able to develop an extraction plan for the client, despite the fact that there was difficulty in gaining direct access to the area with a crane.

A diving team was assembled to operate from a vessel which would be moored in front of the coarse screen to ensure that that the diver could be closely tendered allowing adjacent intakes to remain in service. Air bags were fitted to the screen by the divers to allow the tide to bring the screen back to the surface.
