Operator required a scalable digital solution to bring asset information into a spatial context, supporting more effective integrity management across mature brownfield platforms.

Challenge 

A North Sea operator managing mature brownfield platforms faced a growing backlog of integrity anomalies (MCDRs). Information was fragmented across a CMMS, document repository and spreadsheets, leaving planners with risk-based lists but no spatial context. This resulted in lengthy searches, repeat site surveys and inefficient campaign planning.

The operator needed a robust, scalable 3D point cloud and virtual platform to digitally capture and visualise assets, integrate with Maximo and Documentum, enable spatial planning and anomaly management, and support multiple user groups.

Solution 

The team introduced R2S, built from high accuracy laser scans (±3 mm), 360° imagery, and targeted drone capture for hard to reach areas. The platform synchronised nightly with Maximo, auto tagging anomalies and colour coding by risk/state, while linking equipment tags and line numbers to the latest drawings in Documentum, so users could retrieve P&IDs and isometrics at the point of use.  

Impact 

• ~2 hours saved per anomaly in planning/admin, including locating drawings and asset context.
• Anomaly localisation reduced from ~10–15 minutes to ~2 seconds, enabling faster decisions and fewer site revisits.
• Shift from risk-only lists to area/system-based campaigns, reducing repeat mobilisation, access and scaffolding.
• Higher liquidation throughput and improved campaign readiness through a common operating picture across teams and contractors.
• Clear data ownership, with update and transfer protocols retained by the operator.
