Egress and ingress solutions for submarine platform applications

JFD is a world leader in delivering advanced undersea systems that enable Special Forces to operate discreetly, safely and effectively from submarines. Our egress and ingress systems are engineered to support the secure deployment and recovery of divers and tactical equipment between the submarine platform and the ocean environment.

Designed for demanding operational conditions, these systems enable covert mission execution while maintaining high standards of safety, control and reliability.

Integrated special forces deployment solutions

Egress and ingress systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with submarine platforms, supporting a range of operational concepts. Whether configured as part of a Lock-In Lock-Out (LiLo) system or incorporated within a bespoke Dry Deck Shelter (DDS), we delivers complete, end-to-end capability.

This integrated approach ensures compatibility with submarine architecture while enabling flexible mission planning and execution.

End-to-end capability delivery

Working closely with navies and shipbuilders to develop fully integrated systems tailored to specific mission and platform requirements, our support spans the full lifecycle, including:

  • CONOPS and CONEMP development and requirements definition
  • System design and engineering
  • Product supply and seamless platform integration
  • Installation, testing and commissioning
  • Introduction to service
  • Ongoing in-service support and capability upgrades

This collaborative approach ensures systems are aligned with operational intent from concept through to sustained service.

Lock-in lock-out (Lilo) chambers

LiLo chambers enable controlled diver deployment and recovery directly from the submarine, supporting covert Special Forces operations.

Key characteristics include:

  • Customisable configurations for up to eight divers per cycle
  • Installation within the submarine bridge fin or hull
  • Routine decompression capability as standard
  • Optional therapeutic recompression functionality
  • Operating depth up to 200 metres sea water
  • Test depth up to 250 metres and crush depth to 400 metres
  • Typical lock-out depth of 10–15 metres, extendable up to 40 metres

Dry deck shelter (DDS)

Dry deck shelters provide a flexible and space-efficient solution for deploying personnel and equipment while maintaining operational discretion.

Key features include:

  • Compact design to minimise air volume during pressurisation
  • Efficient stowage for tactical delivery vehicles (TDVs)
  • Angled lock-out hatch to support controlled flooding and diver egress
  • Fully integrated life-support, gas and fluid systems

System monitoring and control

Special Forces Chambers are supported by integrated monitoring and control systems that provide situational awareness and operational oversight.

Capabilities include:

  • External lighting and camera systems for enhanced visibility
  • Monitoring and communications panels for duty officer control
  • Audio and visual communication between chamber and operator

These systems support safe operation during both routine and mission-critical activities.

Engineering excellence and standards compliance

All systems are engineered to meet rigorous quality, safety, and performance standards. Designs are developed in accordance with PD5500 pressure vessel requirements, or to customer-specified standards where required.

Solutions comply with national and international diving and hyperbaric standards and can be assured by third-party bodies including Lloyd’s Register, DNV or TÜV, providing confidence in compliance and certification.
