Robots operating autonomously underwater inspecting and repairing a tree, a mooring chain, or an umbilical. Sensors installed in various subsea equipment and structures capturing data, populating performance dashboards, and updating predictive maintenance models. Divers transported to operations sites via smart vehicles, working safer due to a real-time understanding of their biometrical conditions, and able to optimise diving consumables and reduce bottom-time. Subsea interventions planned in advance, with increased clarity using high-definition imaging and three-dimensional models that replicate accurately the subsea environment where the work will be carried out. All of this may sound too distant or too complex, but we recognize that this is increasingly becoming the reality in the oil and gas subsea market around the world, in fact some of these elements are already part of the modus operandi and much more will come.
James Fisher Ventures value proposition
James Fisher Ventures wants to play a key role in creating this 'Underwater Revolution' through developing new concepts that apply at least one of our four core technologies (autonomy, IoT, connected worker, digital twin) to the subsea oil & gas environment. We will do this by exploring different collaboration models with leading market participants, start-ups, and emerging companies that bring state-of-the-art technology, new thinking, and innovations to the market. In addition, due to our association with James Fisher & Sons, a renowned 175-year-old organisation operating in the energy, maritime, and defence verticals, we are in a unique position to propose, design, and test new ideas with clients and other stakeholders – ideas that exemplify how technology can make a positive impact on their results and on the way services are delivered across the globe. By providing a shared space where clients’ challenges, real operational experience, and new ideas can meet, we believe we will be instrumental in the 'Underwater Revolution' and in making the Blue Economy a reality.
James Fisher Ventures core technologies

Autonomy
Hardware
Hardware devices capable of operating with limited-to-no human intervention based on analysis of environmental data
Software
Software systems capable of providing autonomous functionality to a range of hardware devices

IoT
Asset Monitoring
Installed data collection systems on physical assets – i.e. temperature, operational status, pressure, humidity, depth
Remote Sensing
Satellite data collection – i.e. ship movement, weather, tidal patterns, pollution, sea temperature

Connected Worker
Digital Checklists
People-centred data collection on handheld devices – i.e. maintenance checklists, gauge readings, job completion evidence, time stamps
Biometrics
Collection of human-centred data measuring the physical status and wellbeing of a person

Digital Twin
Reality Models
Virtual replica of a physical asset via reality data, 3D shapes, or drawings
Simulation
Technology on which what-if scenarios can be run, testing hypotheses, training, visualising complex operations
How to be part of the 'Underwater Revolution'?
The James Fisher Ventures’ team will attend many of the main technology, innovation, and start-up events across the globe in 2024 and 2025. We will proactively engage with market players, research and development institutions, innovation hubs, regulators, local agencies, and others who what to innovate and change the world. We want to listen to ideas, see what’s being developed so far, and learn about what different entities do and think. With that, we will explore with an open mind the best way we can collaborate. Equally, we welcome enquiries and invitations to connect and hope that, together, we can create new value for clients and for society and change the way our markets operate.
