Safety systems go stateside

James Fisher Prolec teams up with JFT to deliver construction vehicle safety systems across the US.

Prolec's safety guidance systems have been expanding fast into new markets in the UK and internationally, and an opportunity was identified in the US due to a surge in demand for safety and control systems particularly among North American rail customers.

Prolec's partnership with JFT led to a trial with a leading US rail and highway contractor and the collaboration has enabled US customers to access synergies provided by a group partnership.

The customer is currently testing Prolec's machine safety system, with dual height and slew limitation and full envelope control, with a view to installing the solution on its entire fleet of excavators.

'The client was excited by the expert technology of Prolec's proven safety and control systems, and one of the key reasons it was selected for this trial was the rapid service and support we were able to offer in the US.'

Says Scott Adams, chief executive officer at JFT, adding:

'We are excited to partner with Prolec to offer this mature line of innovative machine control and safety systems into the North American market. The combination of JFT's engineers and technicians with Prolec's cutting edge products will provide our customers fully supported access to the latest developments in machine safety making their operations safer, while delivering efficiency and confidence to the machine owners.'

Simon Everett, managing director at Prolec said:

'We are pleased that our PME systems have been selected for trial in the USA. This system offers a proven means to limit plant movement and increase site safety – a factor that is particularly important in the rail sector, where operations need to proceed while the line is live and carrying passengers.

'The initiative also demonstrates how James Fisher group companies can work together to introduce new products and services to our customers and I am hopeful that this trial will lead to the wider introduction of our systems on the US rail network.'

JFT engineers are in the process of being trained in the Prolec systems and will soon be equipped to facilitate installations, calibrations and repairs for US customers as well as deliver customer service and sales support.
