Strainstall Malaysia receives contract to support the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway’s (CCLEX) safe and efficient construction.

James Fisher Testing Services (JFTS) sister company, Strainstall Malaysia – a leading provider of specialist structural health monitoring systems – has been awarded a high-value contract to design and supply a SHM solution for the CCLEX in Metro, Cebu, the Philippines. The CCLEC chose the company based on its experience in major cable-stayed bridge projects worldwide – along with its international capabilities and facilities. With the CCLEC targeting completion by 2021, the company’s Smart Asset Management Software (SAMS™) will help to ensure that the bridge operates safely throughout all stages of its construction and deployment, while also delivering significant long-term cost-reduction benefits.

Strainstall Malaysia will minimise costs and lead times by operating from its regional facility in Kuala Lumpur, which provides its customers in the Asia-Pacific with a responsive source of regional support. To mitigate the risk of COVID-19 related travel delays, the company has also stationed a team of field engineers in the Philippines which remains on-hand to communicate directly with the CCLEC as the project progresses. Having started installation in August 2020, the team are carefully adhering to social distancing measures, testing, contact tracing, and other local guidelines to protect all on site personnel.

It is great to see our success in the UK and Europe being mirrored overseas as we continue to secure contracts for large SHM projects on iconic structures. The CCLEX is a huge project in the region and we are excited to have the opportunity to have our system support both the construction phase and full life cycle of the bridge. This is another example of how we can delivery projects across the world utilising offices in the Middle East, UK and Malaysia.

Damian Griffiths, General Manager at Strainstall Malaysia

To meet its customer’s unique requirements, Strainstall Malaysia developed a custom-made software solution that shall enables its latest SAMS system to integrate seamlessly into the CCLEC’s pre-existing supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.

  • Strainstall Malaysia’s SAMS system will provide real-time data insights on the bridge’s structural health as construction progresses, helping to maintain a safe working environment at all times.

  • The system enables the CCLEC to benefit from the cost-efficiency benefits of a data driven maintenance strategy, as well as the asset life extension opportunities of long-term structural heath monitoring

As part of its commitment to improving the safety and performance of critical assets, Strainstall Malaysia continues to look for new technologies, methods and projects to support its cable-stay bridge customers on a global scale.
