Milford Fisher sets record for safety

With more than 14 years of trading, the crew of the Milford Fisher recently celebrated the record-breaking achievement of covering in excess of 1,000 voyages and transporting more than six billion litres of fuel without a single lost time injury.

During its service, the Milford Fisher has exclusively sailed around the coast of the UK, Ireland and North West Europe, an area that suffers from severe weather conditions as well as being some of the most environmentally sensitive waters in the world.

The safety record of the Milford Fisher is a testament to her crew who, together with the entire James Fisher Everard (JFE) team, is committed to keeping safety at the forefront of all operations. The company also has a strong support team in place in the London office and the Fisher headquarters in Barrow, who continually strive to provide a dedicated, responsive and reliable service for the company’s customers.

“The key to our ongoing success and the backbone of the company is our staff."

Explains Neil Burns, fleet director at JFE.

The Milford Fisher averages 69 voyages a year, and has now operated for over 5,000 days, sailing more than 560,000 nautical miles – or the equivalent of 26 trips around the circumference of the earth – carrying approximately 250,000 tons of cargo each year. The safety record connected to not just the Milford Fisher but also the entire JFE fleet, is one that reflects superbly well on the efforts of all JFE staff and the crew on board the vessels.

In October 2013, the Milford Fisher’s outstanding safety record was recognized by the Classification Society Lloyds Register who awarded the vessel a special Recognition of Achievement Award. Upon acceptance of this award, the master of the Milford Fisher, Tomasz Linda, commented that it was given in recognition of the hard work and effort of his officers and crew and all those who have sailed on the vessel previously.

Neil continues:

“Looking ahead, our main focus is to continue our outstanding record at sea. This year has been particularly successful for JFE with the Recognition of Achievement Award and introduction of two brand new vessels to the fleet. We are ideally placed to carry on providing the committed service to our customers – this is the foundation of our company.”

JFE operates a fleet of 19 tankers with an average age of less than ten years. The fleet predominantly serves oil majors such as Phillips 66 and forms part of an integrated fuels supply chain alongside rail, road and pipeline networks.
