Safety test for diver re-breathing system
JFD’s COBRA system has been successfully used in its first commercial diving job in the North Sea for Bibby Offshore.
In March 2018, JFD delivered six COBRA (Compact Bailout Rebreather Apparatus) sets to leading subsea services provider, Bibby Offshore, and the team has now completed the first successful commercial dives using this pioneering new safety equipment.
Last summer, Pelican highlighted the development of COBRA which provides 20 minutes of bailout gas at depths of 300msw – it offers significant improvements in diver safety by doubling the standard supply of emergency breathing gas.
JFD worked closely with Bibby Offshore on the research, development and testing phases of the new system, and over 30 successful trials were conducted at depths of 110m with training and instruction provided by a JFD COBRA technician.
On the back of this success – and with a high level of diver satisfaction – Bibby Offshore is now undertaking commercial dives in the oil and gas sector with the COBRA sets.
JFD managing director Giovanni Corbetta says:
‘By working closely alongside companies like Bibby Offshore we can ensure our products are developed in direct response to user requirements. It is a huge triumph to deliver COBRA to one of our most valued clients.’
