Meldrum Mechs ranked 'highest newcomers' in electric car race
JFO supports budding young engineers in the build of an electric racing car - the Meldrum Mechs.
In the Spring 2018 issue of Pelican we reported that a team of budding young engineers from Meldrum Academy near Aberdeen were being supported by James Fisher Offshore (JFO) in the build of an electric racing car.
Working as part of a national project backed by a charity called ‘Greenpower Education’ the ‘Meldrum Mechs’ team of 20 11-16-year olds got to race their car at a special event at the Grampian Transport museum in June.
The build was a huge success and the team was delighted to be placed 8th out of 15 and ranked ‘highest newcomer’ in the UK.
The team, which was kitted out in JFO-sponsored boiler suits, also won the award for the best presented team with the judges commenting: ‘A well-coordinated team in both clothing and behaviour – they conduct themselves in a polite manner and were supportive and positive within their own team and towards other teams and attendees.’
JFO is proud to have been involved in this charity project, supporting an inspiring the next generation of budding engineers!
Read all about the 'Meldrum Mechs' and their race to success in the Spring 2018 edition of Pelican.
