Summer 2012

Freedom of the City for Captain Rod

Congratulations are due to Captain Rod McDonald, Fleet Inspector (Marine), of James Fisher Shipping Services who in a ceremony at London’s Guildhall, was admitted to the Freedom of the City as a Freeman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners.

The granting of the freedom of the City of London is one of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies still in existence in the City. The medieval term ‘freeman’ meant someone who was not the property of a feudal lord but enjoyed privileges such as the right to earn money or own land.

In further ceremony, Rod was also awarded the Merchant Navy Medal by Admiral the Right Honourable Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC PC ADC for services to ship safety management and the Merchant Navy Association in South Wales.
