Solving a current problem
A new contract for RMSpumptools opens new doors in the renewables industry.
RMSpumptools has been awarded the contract to design, manufacture and qualify test a high-power subsea electrical wet-mate and dry-mate connection system on a French tidal farm project. The contract for the Raz Blanchard project in the English Channel marks a broadening of RMSpumptools’ specialist area from offshore oil and gas to the rapidly growing renewable energy market.
Subsea business manager, Michael Winfield, says;
‘This is a strategic first step for us. It gives the company a new footprint into the renewables market and paves the way for further product diversification and development in this arena.’
Existing wet-mate and dry-mate connectors (which make up underwater electrical or optical circuits) are being modified to work with tidal turbines and subsea hubs via export cables which transfer energy from the tidal turbines back to shore.
‘Our ability to modify and develop our products like this differentiates us from our existing competitors and demonstrates the engineering excellence we can deliver. It also gives us greater cross-selling opportunities from a group-wide perspective and indeed enhances the overall group marketing message for the renewables sector.’
Michael adds.
