Nuclear team make TV debut

The team at James Fisher Nuclear is featured in a recent BBC report highlighting the important decommissioning work being carried out at Sellafield.

The programme focuses on the way JFN’s specially adapted ROVs have been used to accelerate the decommissioning process.

According to JFN’s project manager, Wayne Jones, the BBC programme presents JFN’s work with Sellafield as a testbed for specialised technology and techniques which could be used in global decommissioning worldwide (such as Japan, China and America);

‘The programme makers focused on our specially adapted ROVs which have been converted from use in the oil and gas industry to work in this completely new and hostile environment. We replaced a number of components to harden the ROVs to the highly alkaline and radioactive environment and because we are able to test our equipment (rather than use prototypes) we can reduce the risk of break down and unreliability which could otherwise contribute to the nuclear waste problem itself.’
