Weighing in at Southampton

Strainstall has secured its first major order from a global container terminal for its world-leading container weight verification system.

DP World Southampton (DPW), one of Europe's largest terminal operators, has agreed to fit its entire straddle carrier fleet with Strainstall's unique container weight verification system (CWS).

This significant win comes after successful trials proved CWS could achieve accuracy levels which exceed even the most stringent industry expectations. 

CWS has been much in demand as a means by which container ports and terminals across the world can adhere to SOLAS requirements (which will be enforced from July 2016) for all containers to be weighed.

But DPW is planning to take full advantage of the CWS capabilities by becoming one of the first operators to introduce a commercial service for container weight verification for customers at its UK ports. This will be operational from 1 July.

Nick Loader, DPW's chief executive officer, says;

'We looked at a number of different container weighing options but selected CWS because it doesn't require us to make any changes to our port operating procedures, is quick to install, and our trials demonstrated high levels of accuracy.'
