Frank torques himself into the record books
For the past five years, Strainstall’s business development manager, Frank Rose has been working to restore a 20-year old power boat back to its former glory.
In October Frank's efforts paid off when the boat, Vintage Torque, set a new world speed record – putting Frank in the record books.
Frank and his team travelled from Strainstall’s HQ on the Isle of Wight to Lake Coniston in the Lake District to take part in the annual Coniston Powerboat Records Week with other racing hopefuls from around the world (including Jeremy Clarkson’s Grand Tour Team).
Vintage Torque is a Fabio Buzzi designed 32ft offshore monohull, built in 1998 in Italy and powered by an Express 950hp supercharged V8 engine. With Frank at the throttle, the Vintage Torque reached 106.8 mph to set a new world record in the single engine monohull class.
As a first time water speed record breaker over 100mph Frank was duly invited to join the prestigious K7 club founded in honour of world speed champion, Donald Campbell.
