High pressure innovation and a rapid turnaround
High-pressure modifications to existing range of compressors and boosters helps open up new market potential.
After receiving requests for high-pressure (HP) versions of its air compressors, the ScanTech Offshore team has made adaptations and also added HP boosters to its portfolio in a move which has expanded potential market use.
ScanTech Offshore’s low-pressure compressors are typically used in well testing across the oil and gas market. But requests for HP compressor enhancements to 350-psi have opened up new opportunities for HP equipment in other market segments where the equipment can maximise the functionality of air drilling, under balance drilling and nitrogen boosting, as well as pipeline de-watering.
After a very swift production turnaround, the new HP kit, which can deliver 2500-cfm and boost pressure to 2500-psi, is already being successfully deployed by new clients.
Steve Pierce, engineering director at ScanTech Offshore explains:
‘We had a number of requests for HP air compressors and boosters to be used on air drilling projects throughout the Middle East. As the leading supplier of air compressors for the well testing market, it was a natural progression for our technicians to investigate developments in HP air supply for new applications.’
Further requests for HP functionality started to arrive during the second half of 2017 from clients working on a pipeline and process project in Baku, Azerbaijan and a separate heavy oil-burning project in Turkmenistan. To meet this demand, 350-psi air compressors were sourced and remodelled into low-pressure donor air compressor containers and then upgraded with 60oC ambient coolers to suit the new HP desert applications.
After a rapid turnaround, a ScanTech Offshore HP booster is already working on an air drilling project in Erbil in Iraq, and HP air compressors are soon to be sent to a well-testing project in Turkmenistan.
Steve Pierce, engineering director at ScanTech Offshore says:
‘These new products allow us to diversify and expand into other market sectors within the oil and gas industry, increasing both our service portfolio and our client base. Our customers have been very satisfied with the equipment.'
