Celebrating 35 years of service on land and at sea with JFMS

JFMS is celebrating the long service of senior tenders and proposals manager Tony D’Arcy-Masters who has been part of the evolution and development of the company for the past 35 years.

Back in 1983, when just 27, Tony became the youngest chief engineer in the history of Rowbotham Tankships which later went on to merge with P&O Tankships and was subsequently acquired by James Fisher.

He took on roles both at sea and ashore, writing the shipboard engineering operations and procedures manual which became the forerunner of the now recognised ISO 9000 quality system and helping to co-ordinate the relocation of the shipping department to Barrow-in-Furness, taking delivery of the company’s first new-build vessel for many years, the Shannon Fisher, and playing an integral role in setting up a new division which subsequently became JFMS.

Although land-based for the last ten years, Tony has maintained his connection with the sea as a key trustee running the Southport Independent Lifeboat search and rescue service along the Merseyside and West Lancashire coastline.

He says:

‘I’m proud of becoming chief engineer so young, of my lifeboat duties and of being part of JFMS and watching it grow from a fledgling business to a major division within the James Fisher group.’
