Rotos 360 completes wind turbine repair for Vattenfall at Parc Cynog Wind and Solar Park

Provider of turnkey solutions for onshore and offshore wind turbine repair and maintenance projects, Rotos 360, has completed a project that reduced the amount of downtime, risk and overall cost at Parc Cynog Wind and Solar Park in South West Wales.

Parc Cynog Wind Farm has been in operation for 18 years and is made up of 11 turbines. Rotos 360 was contracted by Vattenfall to repair a wrinkle within an LM blade of a Micon M1800-750/47 750KW wind turbine generator.

Parc Cynog plays an important contribution to the Welsh economy, with around £400,000 invested into through the maintenance, servicing and operation of the site.i The site is also popular with local schools and pupils regularly visit the farm learn about the project.

Rotos 360, part of James Fisher and Sons plc, has a proven track record of completing complex blade repairs and led by a team of highly experienced specialists, the company offered a solution that reduced the amount of downtime, risk and overall cost.

Vattenfall originally considered removing the blade due to the size and complexity of the damage, however Rotos 360’s unrivalled methods ensured the damage could be repaired directly from the turbine using access equipment hired from a local company, a MEWP (from a mobile elevating work platform), as an alternative access method.

Andrew Claridge, service lead at Vattenfall, added:

“Whilst initially reviewing the damage we thought that the whole blade may have to be replaced. We were extremely impressed with Rotos 360’s inventive and reactive solution and its competency in delivery. With a focus on the community and its health and safety commitment we knew that they were the right partner for the job.”
