Flavio terminal supplied with SOLAS compliant, CWS fitted reach stackers
Pioneering contract sees Flavio terminal in Italy supplied with four Kalmar reach stackers each fitted with Strainstall's Container Weight System (CWS)™.
Requirements:
As with all ports, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulations required the Flavio terminal in Naples, Italy to adopt an accurate means of obtaining and supplying customers with the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of shipping containers.
With 450 Kalmar reach stackers already purchased, the terminal required a solution which could be easily retrofitted to its existing equipment with minimal disruption to operations.
Benefits of Strainstall's CWS™ solution:
Type approved for obtaining VGM, Strainstall's CWS™ seamlessly integrates load monitoring technology into existing container handling equipment to deliver highly accurate weight information without the need for operator intervention.
Project delivery:
To begin, one Container Weight System™ was retrofitted to a Kalmar reach stacker with the help of the Flavio terminal. Following its successful implementation, it was requested that CWS™ be fitted to three further Kalmar reach stackers which was achieved by Kalmar at their Livorno facility in Italy.
Results:
All four reach stackers fitted with Strainstall's system now enable the terminal to provide its customers with an IMO compliant solution. Snag and off-centre load detection offered by CWS™ also help to ensure that container stowage and transportation operations are carried out safely.
Describing the installation of the system, Roberto Bucci, managing director of the Flavio terminal said:
"We have been extremely impressed with the level of support provided by Strainstall during the installation of its Container Weight System on to our Kalmar reach stacker. Now fully operational...the system provides a seamless container weight certification service to shippers. The accuracy of the system has also surpassed our expectations and we would be delighted to recommend CWS."
Having recently secured a significant OEM contract, Strainstall is now able to offer CWS™ pre-fitted on Kalmar reach stackers as well as a retrofit option on existing equipment. For more information on CWS™ visit Strainstall's website.
