Frequently asked questions

It will depend on the level and nature of the role you are interested in. If a degree is a requirement, it will usually be stated in the job description. However, a candidate who does not hold a degree may still be considered for one of our professional vacancies if substantial, relevant experience can be demonstrated.

It depends on the position you are interested in. Many technical roles require you to have spent time in a similar job and environment, while other positions may require less specific experience. Most of our commercial opportunities are based on generic business skill sets which do not always require particular industry experience.

We recommend that you carefully consider the type of role you are looking for and only apply for positions that fully match your requirements and skill sets.

Please include your latest CV which we will review as part of your application. Should your contact details change please keep us informed. You also have the option to attach a cover letter should you wish to do so.

We are aware that fraudulent recruitment scams are becoming an increasing problem in the industries in which we operate and that individuals and organisations have falsely claimed to represent James Fisher in a bid to gain money.

Please note that James Fisher and Sons plc will never make demands from applicants for money transfers or payments.

If you have any concerns, please email  recruitment@james-fisher.com with details or contact a member of the team on +44 (0)1229 615 400.

If you are unable to find the position you were applying for, it has most likely reached its closing date and been removed from view. As such, we advise candidates to submit their applications early in order to avoid disappointment.

After submitting your application, you should receive an automated email from us acknowledging your application. If you have not received a confirmation email, check your 'junk' or 'spam' email folder to ensure it has not been filed there.

Verify that the email address on your application/CV is correct.

Generally, applications are reviewed after the specified closing date. If a role is advertised for an immediate start, you may hear from us sooner.

We have found that psychometric testing is a good, objective indicator of how successful candidates will be when they join our organisation. We use an online system so individuals can ensure they are in the right environment and frame of mind for taking the test.

As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to offering an interview to disabled candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.

Yes, we will reimburse reasonable expenditure if you are invited to interview, but usually this is only for a second stage interview. If in doubt as to whether your expenses would be deemed 'reasonable', please check with us before you incur any costs.

Due to the volume of applications we receive, we regret it is not always possible to supply feedback to individual candidates at the application stage. However if you have attended an interview or assessment centre, we will provide feedback and an update as soon as we are able to.
