JF Nigeria recognised for its world-class safety culture with ISO45001 certification
James Fisher Nigeria (JF Nigeria) has achieved ISO accreditation to the new standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S) that will ensure the company achieves, and maintains, an excellent safety culture for its customers and employees.
Following an extensive audit by BM TRADA, part of Element Materials Technology Group, JF Nigeria has been granted ISO 45001 status. Developed by an international group of safety and health experts, ISO 45001 is the “gold standard” in OH&S management and recognises the people-first culture the company has embedded across the organisation.
Karen Prendergast, divisional director, certification of Element Materials Technology Group said:
“We were very pleased to work with JF Nigeria and provide the company with ISO 45001 occupational health and safety certification.
“As a leading certification body we have clients in most industry sectors, ranging from small businesses to major brands, and our expert auditors understand the issues facing most types of organisations. Becoming certified to this new standard is a testament to JF Nigeria’s commitment to providing a safe and healthy working environment for its employees. It will also enable the company to streamline processes and deliver efficiencies, saving the organisation time and money.”
JF Nigeria’s achievement highlights the emphasis the company places on maintaining a safe working environment and its commitment to continual improvement, both in its own workplaces and at the various customer facilities where it also operates.
Jonathan Parkes, director, marine support at James Fisher and Sons plc, said:
“We have worked closely with BM TRADA, our certification body, to fully document and comply with the standard and meet all legal requirements. Businesses around the world are demanding a greater emphasis on the health, safety, and well-being of their workforce and at James Fisher we have embedded a culture which is committed to meeting the highest possible standards.”
Designed to suit the needs of each organisation individually, according to its own context, the new OH&S standard adopts the Annex SL framework used in the other key management systems standards, helping companies to achieve the following:
- Improve employee safety
- Reduce workplace risks
- Create better, safer working conditions
In addition to ISO 45001, JF Nigeria has received ISO 9001 certification, an aligning quality management standard.
JF Nigeria is part of leading marine services company, James Fisher and Sons plc, and provides the region with enhanced services and a comprehensive portfolio of specialised marine products and services focused in the oil and gas sector.
