Big data in offshore wind: Can it reduce the cost of wind turbine operations and maintenance?

Offshore wind farms offer a plentiful, and most importantly, renewable, source of electrical energy. In 2014 4% of UK energy usage was generated by 22 wind farms, with the trend set to continue. An ongoing issue currently facing wind farms, however, is the huge costs involved in ensuring they are working at optimum levels.

In an independent report by the University of East Anglia (UEA), commissioned by James Fisher and Sons plc, a comprehensive assessment is made as to how big data has the potential to significantly reduce the huge costs associated with wind farm operations.
